Nicholas Curl is the grandson of immigrants, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and he’s Para Los Niños’ Communications and Digital Media Coordinator.

Pride Month provides an important opportunity to bring awareness to critical issues affecting the community, including domestic and dating violence. Para Los Niños’ Domestic Violence Support Services (DVSS) Program held two closed group workshops in English and in Spanish called “Fostering Visibility for Marginalized LGBTQIA+ Survivors of Domestic Violence,” in which community members learned of the many intersections within DV & the LGBTQIA+ community that can increase risks and barriers to care.

Dr. Sharon “Sherry” Berg is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been with Para Los Niños for more than a decade. She serves as PLN’s Director of Clinical Development, supporting our infant and early childhood mental health services and leading a robust clinical training program that prepares future mental health professionals. In addition to this role, which already carries a tremendous amount of responsibility, she facilitates support groups for families of transgender and gender-diverse children through a Los Angeles-based organization dedicated to providing a supportive environment for children, adolescents, and their families to explore issues of gender identity.

Para Los Niños began providing mental health care to families more than 20 years ago and remains the only children’s mental health provider in the Skid Row neighborhood. In the spirit of Mental Health Month, we want to share what makes our staff and program exceptional as well as encourage our community of staff, supporters and families to prioritize their wellbeing.

International Women’s History Month is an opportunity to recognize and honor the achievements of women past and present, while advocating for a more fair future for people of all genders. Para Los Niños’ Board of Directors is made up of a diverse group of individuals from several industries and varying backgrounds, but today, we want to shine a light on our incredible Vice Chair, Sandra Aispuro.
