This past July, twenty United Talent Agency employees came to PLN’s Youth Workforce Services (YWS) Central campus to help refine resumes and practice mock interviews with our students. Professional career input like this is invaluable to our students’ confidence and preparation, and we are so grateful for UTA investing into our youth!

Michelle, a YWS youth who attended the UTA workshop, said of the experience, “It was great to speak to someone who was in a field that I aspire to be in. I really appreciated receiving feedback on my resume and elevator pitch from someone with such a high position of influence and decision-making. This experience inspired me to network more and made me believe that I can shoot for better positions in the career I want.”

Angel, one of the volunteers, works at UTA’s Finance & Accounting Department. When asked about his experience to work with our YWS Youth, he said, “I thought this was a great program to be a part of …. I feel like we can all benefit and grow by sometimes being told what we can improve in for interviews, and to be encouraged to go ahead and find job opportunities -and life opportunities in general.”

He added, “I gave them my email for any referrals that they need in the future and gave them tweaks for their resumes that were already very strong. I think the students I worked with benefited from me, just like I benefited from them.”

The breadth and depth of PLN’s work is made possible through our partnerships with volunteers and organizations. If you are interested to volunteer as a tutor, mentor, student reader, or event supporter in other future opportunities, learn more at https://paralosninos.org/volunteer/ . We welcome volunteers from individuals, community groups, colleges and schools. We have had people interested in supporting with our student’s music, providing financial literacy, and giving interview run throughs -we are open to all our volunteers’ ideas and finding a way to help all connect and grow.
