Advocacy


PLN Youth will work alongside other Los Angeles (LA) Youth to uplift challenges in Digital Equity and Workforce Development through Cannabis Revenue to ensure LA Youth receive high-quality programs and services to ensure their success.   

The goal is to bring youth together twice a month to build their knowledge through trainings and workshops to understand their role in the policymaking and advocacy process.

Our mission is clear: empower youth with knowledge, leadership skills, and ensure their voices drive policy changes for student success, including bridging the digital divide. 


Objectives: 

  • Knowledge and Confidence Building: Equip youth to confidently navigate the educational landscape. 
  • Policy Engagement and Advocacy: Actively involve youth in shaping policies addressing educational and workforce challenges. 
  • Continuous Youth Inclusion in Policymaking: Establish a lasting framework for youth voices in decision-making, ensuring policies are responsive and inclusive. 

Initiatives: 

  • Listening Sessions: Create a safe space for impactful dialogues, amplifying youth perspectives on lived challenges. 
  • Workshops: Dive into targeted workshops, enhancing skills from effective communication to understanding policy intricacies. 
  • Action Plans: Develop concrete steps identified from discussions, empowering students to drive meaningful change in local and state politics. 
  • Community Building: Create long lasting relationships with other community members and work alongside them on different campaigns.

The goal is to recruit 15-20 youth members from around Los Angeles to advocate for change, focusing on reshaping policies, and advancing youth-centered policies and programs. Our mission is clear: empower youth with knowledge, leadership skills, and ensure their voices drive policy changes for student success, including bridging the digital divide. 

Youth Council Expectations:  

  • Bi-weekly meetings (1hr)
  • Remote/ in person
  • Attend training sessions
  • Attend Digital Equity coalition events 
  • Create community events
  • Engage with elected officials and community members 
  • Work cooperatively with fellow council members 
  • Foster a sense of unity and camaraderie

Youth Council Qualifications:  

  • Target Age: 16– 24 
  • High School, Community College, 4-year institution, graduate school, and vocational schooling 
  • Eager to learn about digital equity 
  • Showcases interest in wanting to learn about community organizing, leadership/ advocacy development, and expanding on communication skills 
  • Living in Los Angeles 
  • Willing to share their personal stories
